Interior Design
Grade 9-12
Semester Course 2.5 Credits
Course Overview: This course introduces students to the elements and principles involved in creating an appealing and functional interior environment (home, apartment, college dorm). The curriculum provides technical knowledge, history, theory, and the opportunity to develop design techniques. Theoretical and practical projects are assigned to assist students in expressing their unique style and ideas through drawing, model making and computer aided design. Student ideas are strengthened through study of color, historic styles, furniture design, and creative problem solving projects. This course may be repeated with advanced study for full credit with the instructor’s approval.
GOALS:
One of the basic needs of all creatures is shelter. As humans, the shelter we have has a profound effect on our self-evaluation and outlook on life. Frequently, minor adjustments in living conditions will result in major changes in the level of living. The learning experiences in this course are designed to provide information and techniques which the students can utilize to enhance their living conditions not only now but also in the future. Students will gain an understanding of color, line and design and how they all interact. Students will be able to identify the elements and principles of design in each classroom assignment. Ultimately they will be able to complete a computer aided design incorporating all design elements taught over the semester.
This course is offered in the Fall semester only.
